January 2023: What's New in Safety & DOT Compliance

What DOT compliance updates does January 2023 have in store for the transportation industry?
The new year is officially in full swing, which means it's time to find out what new safety events and DOT compliance requirements are coming up.
DOT Clearinghouse Changing Safety Performance History Checks
The most pressing order of business for fleet managers this month is the upcoming FMCSA Clearinghouse regulations going into effect.
On January 6, DOT-regulated companies will no longer need to manually reach out to their potential new drivers’ previous employers to find out their drug and alcohol violations for the past three years, as a part of the Safety Performance History (SPH) check process.
Instead, conducting a pre-employment query in the Clearinghouse will fulfill the requirement of obtaining a driver’s record of drug and alcohol violations, since the DOT Clearinghouse will have three years of data for all registered users since its official start on January 6, 2020.
If you need help navigating the DOT Clearinghouse or adjusting your SPH check process, Foley is here to ensure you’re doing so correctly and compliantly.

Society of Automotive Engineers Government/Industry Conference
The highly anticipated annual SAE Government/Industry conference will take place from January 17-19 in Washington, D.C., and provide government, regulatory, and policymakers in the automotive industry a neutral forum to discuss the effects of government regulations, new and upcoming technologies, and consumer expectations on vehicle design.

The supply chain is always in the news these days, and it will also be the hot topic at Jump Start, a three-day supply chain event that targets carriers, shippers, logistics service providers, and technology providers. Set to take place January 23-25 in Atlanta, Georgia, this is the definitive intelligence-gathering event of the industry and offers “unrivaled networking opportunities” to kick off 2023.
