Both the FMCSA and CVSA published important updates this month. Catch up on the latest federal news.

2024 International Roadcheck Dates & Focus Areas Confirmed

Mark your calendars: The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has confirmed the dates for this year's highly anticipated International Roadcheck: May 14-16.

Spanning across Canada, Mexico, and the US, this three-day initiative is dedicated to promoting roadway safety and ensuring compliance with commercial motor vehicle regulations. Throughout International Roadcheck, CVSA-certified law enforcement personnel will conduct comprehensive inspections of commercial motor vehicles and drivers at multiple locations, including weigh/inspection stations, temporary sites, and mobile patrols.

The primary focus areas for this year's Roadcheck will be tractor protection systems and alcohol and controlled substance possession.

Now is the time to ensure all drivers are enrolled in a DOT drug and alcohol testing program and run queries on your drivers in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to avoid surprise violations during Roadcheck 2024.

Unfair Leasing Task Force Comment Period Extended

The FMCSA published a notice in the Federal Register on February 16, 2024, seeking input from the public, including commercial motor vehicle drivers, to support the Truck Leasing Task Force (TLTF) in reviewing leases for potential unfair terms and conditions that may affect drivers.

In response, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) requested an extension of the comment period to allow sufficient time for drivers and the public to gather and submit leasing information. OOIDA also highlighted the importance of feedback from their members and other drivers attending the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky, from March 21st to 23rd.

Recognizing the value of this input, the FMCSA has decided to extend the comment period until April 2, 2024, providing interested parties with additional time to submit their responses to the docket. You can leave your comments here.
