The impact of drug and alcohol use in the workplace is substantial. The costs of workplace substance use are found in such areas as:

1. Productivity: Substance users are 33 percent to 50 percent less productive.
2. Absenteeism: Users are absent an average of three weeks more per year and tardy three times more often than non-users.
3. Accidents: Users arethree to four times more likely to have an accident on the job, and five times more likely to file a workers compensation claim.
4. Medical claims: Substance users file 300 percent to 400 percent more costly medical claims.
5. Employee theft: An estimate 50 percent to 80 percent of all pilferage, theft and losses due to substance-using employees.

    

   The Drug-Free Workplace Program Employee Training video is designed to increase awareness of problems associated with drug and alcohol use and the reasons to implement a drug-free workplace. It provides an opportunity for the employer to familiarize employees with the process and expectations of participating in a drug-free workplace.
