4/10/2009 - Five Loco Local Laws for Truckers

This week we’re looking at some of the most nonsensical rules for truckers from local jurisdictions around the country. Some of these are current, some have thankfully been abandoned. These rules are usually written with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, they are often written by people who have no knowledge of the trucking industry or the Federal Safety Regulations.

The US Department of Transportation does its best to stop these rules from affecting truck drivers but it’s a constant battle against whatever the local authorities come up with next. These rules are the bane of the long-distance trucker — those drivers that go from region to region and unwittingly stumble into the domain of the nutty local legislation. It’s hard out there for a trucker — bad economy, diesel prices, log-jam traffic — the last thing any driver needs is to deal with unpredictable, illogical rules.

So here they are: Five Loco Local Laws for Truckers.
