Beginning October 1, 2002, FMCSA can disqualify CDL holders for "new offenses"! Additionally, as states implement these new requirements, they can retroactively disqualify drivers for offenses that were committed after the effective date. These offenses now include personal vehicle offenses which can result in CDL disqualifications and suspensions!
According to Transport Topics, "FMCSA believes nearly 26,000 truck drivers could be disqualified and an additional 15,000 suspended every year as a result."
